As we approach the new year, it is common practice to make some resolutions. This can be a great way to reflect on what you’ve done in the last year and how it has helped shape you! Are you where you want to be in terms of fitness? Have you been paying attention to your nutrition? Have you given yourself enough rest and recovery time? Have you become more conscious of your habits both inside and outside of the gym? Have your practices changed since the last time you checked in? If not, now might be a good time to get rid of those bad ones, so they don’t come back the next time.

It’s widely known that your mind can be your best friend or your worst enemy. What you tell yourself and how you feel about what happens to you throughout the day can significantly impact how happy and productive you are. For this reason, it is essential to make sure that we do everything we can to keep our minds healthy. Our Self-Talk, Routines, and Resilience are three major components of a healthy mindset. Each of these areas necessarily involves a positive mindset to achieve the desired level of success.

Do you ever find yourself saying things like “I can’t do this” or “I’m not good at this”? If so, you are not alone. Most people have a negative inner dialogue that is often difficult to control. This type of self-talk can have a profound impact on your mindset and decision-making ability. It’s important to learn how to recognize when these thoughts occur and change them into more positive affirmations about yourself. Self-talk is the internal dialogue with ourselves; it can be positive and grateful or negative and victimizing. To create positive momentum when we criticize ourselves, we must make an effort to speak valid, healthy, inspiring, and kind words to ourselves. It will take time to break bad habits if we have developed them. So when setting goals for the new year, be patient and compassionate to yourself.

Our mindset influences how we think, behave, and act in our daily lives and spend our time and energy. Incorporating positive, focused, grateful behaviors or routines into our mornings, work, workouts, and evenings is critical. For many people, routine is a way of life. Daily tasks for ourselves and others help us get through the week with less stress, more focus, and more time for fun activities. Routine can also help to develop positive habits that lead to improved mental health. It also brings consistency to our days, assisting us in gaining momentum toward living our actual values and achieving our objectives. A morning routine can get us connected with our body, mind, and spirit to carry momentum into the rest of the day. An evening routine can ensure we unplug from electronics and get into a calm, relaxed state to promote restful sleep and wake up prepared for the next day.

Resiliency is a characteristic that many people possess, and it’s the ability to bounce back from difficult situations. Seeking and overcoming adversity regularly, be it saunas, cold showers, burpees, studying, projects, career opportunities, helps build confidence and belief in ourselves. It can help you have a healthy mindset, so you’re not as stressed out about things in life. It also helps people stay optimistic about their situation and find ways to move forward even if they don’t have complete control over what happens.

Deep down, we must believe in ourselves, our ability to grow and complete complex tasks. So, preparing for success with positive self-talk, routines, and resilience practices is our best bet for achieving the goals we set for ourselves in the new year.

What are the practices and habits that have the most significant compounding interest for you? We discuss the processes that will help you commit to your routines, take control of your self-talk, and boost your confidence by building resiliency and focus during a Mindset Consultation. Our health and fitness extend beyond training and nutrition. Our thoughts must be in sync with our habits and goals, and we can assist you in finding the best path for you.
